Randy Knott Randy was born in
1955 on a First Nation reserve at Curve Lake Ontario, Canada just north of
Peterborough, Ontario in the Kawartha Lakes region. His brother is
renowned artist Norman Knott. Randy is a self taught artist and has been painting symbolic art since 1976. He
paints mainly with acrylic on canvas and stone, though on occasion, he will
work on leather and wood with a wood burner, which he uses as a paintbrush. His work defines a living culture, as well as
represents the survival of the Native Way as he sees it. He paints the
mystical power that he, as a Native sees in the First Nations Peoples.
From Randy's perspective, the Eagle is the bird of power, the wolf is the
protector; the one with the eyes. Randy also sees the Eagle as the
messenger who brings messages from and takes our prayers to, the Creator. The book, Visions of Our Native American
Heritage, 1994, by Jay and Georgette Stock, features Randy and his work as the
Mystical Artist. From 1994 - 2000, Randy
taught Native symbolism in reference to his artwork in a variety of schools
across Ontario. As a special member of
the Scrarborough Arts Guild, Randy participated in several of the juried art
shows associated with the Guild, including the annual Art in the Park, held at
the Guildwood Inn Park, near the Scarborough Bluffs in Ontario Canada. As
part of his work with the Guild, Randy's work is featured as a final piece in
the Scarborough Mural Routes - 12 murals, displayed along Kingston Rd, Randy's
being at Cliffside Drive, Scarborough. Randy’s work has been taken across the world and hangs in such places
